Thermo Fisher Scientific Launches Single-Use Mixer for Bioprocessing

LOGAN, Utah, (Nov. 27, 2006) — Thermo Fisher Scientific, the world leader in serving science, today announced the launch of the Thermo Scientific HyClone Single-Use Mixer (S.U.M.), an advance in animal cell culture and disposable bioprocessing.

Based on the same stirred-tank mixing principle incorporated into the company’s Single-Use Bioreactor (S.U.B.) released earlier this year, the S.U.M. enables powerful and efficient mixing of powder/liquid and liquid/liquid media in a closed system with sterile single-use contact surfaces.

The S.U.M. consists of a reusable high-density polyethylene outer support container, a sterile S.U.M. BioProcess Container (BPC®) and a mobile stainless steel skid with mixing motor. The S.U.M. BPC includes a port that interfaces with a Powdertainer™ powder feed bag, providing efficient and controlled discharge of powdered media and buffers into the system. A bottom drain port allows maximum recovery of BPC contents. The unit is available in 200, 500 and 1000 liter working volumes.
