HyClone Announces New Disposable Mixing System

Logan, Utah (October 13, 2003)—
HyClone announces the latest innovation in BioProcess Container™ (BPC) technology, a completely self-contained disposable system for mixing fluids called the Mixtainer™. The Mixtainer system consists of the Mixtainer BPC that is supported by a reusable polyethylene drum that easily aligns with the Maxi Stirrer magnetic stirring plate and dolly. The Mixtainer BPC itself is the single-use consumable part, made of a medical-grade film, with a magnetic stir-bar in a containing dish welded into the bottom of the bag.

The Mixtainer system replaces conventional mixing technology using open tank liners and BioProcess Containers configured with recirculation loops or placed on rocking/shaking platforms. The Mixtainer system provides a convenient method of mixing cell culture media, buffers, process liquids, bulk product, and resuspending of process fluids and microcarrier solutions, in a closed system. The disposable BPC component of the system is manufactured of HyQ© CX5-14, a 14 mil medical-grade film which has outstanding tensile properties, low gas permeability, and a low profile of leachable compounds. Mixtainer systems are available in 50 L, 100 L and 200 L sizes.
