Manufactured by SolohHill Engineering, Inc. (Ann Arbor, MI) and distributed exclusively by HyClone, HyQ®Sphere™ microcarriers are small beads used in cell culture applications. HyQ®Spheres™ have a specific gravity such that they can be maintained in suspension, and surface chemistry that facilitates attachment and growth of anchorage-dependent cells.

The primary benefit of microcarriers is that they provide increased surface area to volume ratios, allowing large-scale culture inside a relatively small footprint. For example: A three-liter microcarrier culture can replace up to 26 standard roller bottles.

HyQ®Spheres™ provide flexibility in choice of cell culture systems, from collagen-coated beads suitable for serum-containing cultures, to animal derived component free (ADCF™) beads for processes that must be free of animal components. HyQ®Sphere™ microcarriers readily work with serum-free media, including HyClone's HyQ®SFM4MegaVir™, an ADCF™ medium for Vero, MDCK, and other cell lines.
