Thermo Fisher Scientific Announces Stem Cell Alliance with Primogenix
The agreement will cover the marketing of murine embryonic stem cells and media used to grow these cells. This partnership was formed in response to growing demand among researchers for high-quality murine embryonic stem cells. First isolated in 1981, murine embryonic stem cells, or “ES cells,” are used to produce mouse models of human disease that aid in the understanding of and in the development of therapies for genetic diseases in humans. The discovery and use of mouse ES cells and associated technology that allows the precise modification of individual genes has had such a major impact on biomedical research that the three scientists who laid the ground work for the use of mouse ES cells and the associated gene targeting technology were awarded the 2007 Nobel Prize in Medicine. This agreement augments the recent launch of Thermo Scientific HyClone dvanceSTEM™ line of stem cell culture products, which has been developed specifically for applications in stem cell research. The line comprises numerous products designed to support a wide range of applications from the expansion and maintenance of undifferentiated stem cells to their directed differentiation such as the differentiation of mesenchymal stem cells into adipocytes, chondrocytes and osteocytes.
