Producing calf serum of exceptional quality requires precise and consistent control during all processing steps. As with FBS, HyClone is the only large volume supplier of bovine calf serum in the USA to use its own personnel to collect, filter and perform the final aseptic fill. HyClone's closed-system collection method virtually eliminates extraneous contamination and dramatically reduces endotoxin levels. Additionally, rapid processing minimizes serum damage and results in extremely low hemoglobin levels.

Every lot is filtered through three serial 100nm (0.1 m) filters and is tested for growth promotion. In addition, our ability to produce large lots, 3,000 liters, minimizes natural fluctuations in serum components, resulting in substantial testing and screening cost savings. HyClone's USA sourced bovine calf serum is sourced only from formula fed calves (which average in age from 18-22 weeks at time of collection), which also reduces variability from lot to lot.
