A History of Innovation and Quality

HyClone's Origin
HyClone was founded in 1967 by Dr. Rex Spendlove, then a Utah State University professor. At that time, HyClone’s core business was the supply of consistently high-quality fetal bovine serum (FBS). HyClone pioneered serum collection, filtration, and processing techniques to produce consistently high quality, reliable serum products. To produce FBS, HyClone collects fetal bovine blood using a patented closed-system collection method that results in serum with exceptionally low levels of endotoxin and hemoglobin. Forty years of dependable service to research and industry have established HyClone as a name synonymous with innovation and quality.

HyClone Continues to Lead
With innovations in serum processing, disposable liquid manufacturing, and high-speed particle reduction of dry powdered media, HyClone has evolved into a world leader in manufacturing media, reagents, sera and BioProcess Containers™.

HyClone: Expanding Capacity to Meet the Growing Demands of the Industry
As the bioprocessing industry has aggressively moved into the 21st century, HyClone has responded to the needs of its customers by significantly expanding manufacturing operations.

HyClone is now a part of Thermo Fisher Scientific
We are a part of Thermo Fisher Scientific, the world leader in serving science. Thermo Fisher Scientific enables customers to make the world healthier, cleaner and safer by providing analytical instruments, equipment, reagents and consumables, software and services for research, analysis, discovery and diagnostics. With annual sales of more than $9 billion, Thermo Fisher Scientific has 30,000 employees and serves more than 350,000 customers in pharmaceutical and biotech companies, hospitals and clinical diagnostic labs, universities, research institutions and government agencies as well as environmental, industrial quality and process control settings.

From HyClone’s state-of-the-art powdered media micronization facility to the revolutionary HyNetics™ Single-Use Disposable manufacturing module, HyClone is well positioned to provide the products and delivery systems needed for customers to increase manufacturing efficiency and accelerate product delivery to the marketplace.

To meet the ever-increasing needs of its customers, HyClone is expanding its Water For Injection Quality (WFI) water systems. Expansions for HyClone’s WFI system include both increased production for the hydration facility as well as a new WFI system in the dry powdered media manufacturing facility.

HyClone also partners with its customers in process development. Whether these requirements include customized liquid delivery systems or media optimized for a particular cell line or application, HyClone’s development staff is trained to assess these exacting requirements and provide effective solutions.

Whether customer’s processes are at the research and development level or in full-scale production, HyClone offers complete lines of classical, serum-free, protein-free, and custom medium formulations in liquid and powder to meet their needs.

HyQ® cell culture media, buffers, balanced salt solutions, and reagents are manufactured with the same attention to detail as HyClone serum products. From production to quality control to final product packaging, every care is taken to ensure that the final products HyClone supplies are of the highest quality and consistency. HyClone provides convenient delivery systems ranging from small volume bottles to large volume (900 L) standard or customized BioProcess Containers™ (BPCs).
