Antibiotics and Selection Agents
HyClone offers a quality selection of antibiotics to control bacterial, yeast, fungi, and mycoplasma contaminations, as well as premium selection antibiotics. Note: Antibiotics/antimycotics should not be used as an alternative to proper aseptic technique. The introduction of laminar-flow hoods coupled with good aseptic techniques have greatly reduced the necessity to add antibiotics in most cell culture protocols, However, antibiotics are still routinely added to cell culture media. Primproving aseptic techniques and limiting antibiotic use is desirable, as overuse of antibiotics can encourage the development of antibiotic-resistant organisms, hide the presence of a low level contamination that can become full operative if
HyClone recommends that the use of antibiotics be limited and removed from culture if possible. When antibiotics are used for long periods of time, parallel cultures should be maintained free of antibiotics.
