AdvanceSTEM™ Primogenix Cells

Primogenix Mouse Embryonic Stem Cells (mESCs)
Primogenix PRX - 129/X1 Mouse Embryonic Stem Cells (mESCs)
Primogenix PRX - B6N Mouse Embryonic Stem Cells (mESCs)

First isolated in 1981, murine embryonic stem cells, or “ES cells,” are used to produce mouse models of human disease that aid in the understanding of and in the development of therapies for genetic diseases in humans. The discovery and use of mouse ES cells and associated technology that allows the precise modification of individual genes has had such a major impact on biomedical research that the three scientists who laid the ground work for the use of mouse ES cells and the associated gene targeting technology were awarded the 2007 Nobel Prize in Medicine.

In October of 2007, Thermo Fisher Scientific Inc announced its agreement with Primogenix, Inc. of Laurie, Mo., which covers the marketing of murine embryonic stem cells and media used to grow these cells. This partnership was formed in response to growing demand among researchers for high-quality murine embryonic stem cells.

Primogenix was founded with the purpose of providing high quality, robust mouse embryonic stem cell lines to researchers around the world in order to enhance their research efforts and allow for more efficient production of mouse models of human diseases. The company is dedicated to deriving and validating novel mouse embryonic stem cell lines that are used to understand mammalian gene function. Leveraging nearly two decades of experience in embryonic stem cell technology, Primogenix is applying proven expertise to
help results-driven researchers achieve their project goals faster and at lower cost. The company provides high quality mouse embryonic stem cells, de novo derivation of mouse embryonic stem cell lines, and consulting services that accelerate research programs.

Mouse embryonic stem cells, commonly abbreviated as “mESCs,” are used in many biomedical research laboratories and for many scientists have become a standard laboratory tool for evaluating gene function in the context of complex mammalian physiology via the production of gene targeted or knockout mice.

We are pleased to introduce two mouse ESC lines derived from two of the most commonly used mouse strains for generating knockout mice: 129 and B6.

129-derived mESC lines tend to be stable when cultured under classical conditions in medium containing DMEM, FBS, and LIF. 129-derived lines are often the workhorse of the gene targeting laboratory and have been used to make literally thousands of mouse knockouts.

In recent years, however, there has been growing interest in producing mouse models in the C57BL/6 (B6)-derived ESC lines, thus avoiding the lengthy and expensive backcrossing into the B6 strain, which is preferred for some physiological studies.

These two highly robust mESC lines have been carefully tested and shown to be germline competent, karyotyped by G-banding, and are free from common mouse pathogens and mycoplasma as tested by PCR assay. These lines have been derived and validated using high quality Thermo Scientific HyClone Classical Basal Media, in the presence of Thermo Scientific HyClone ES-Qualified Fetal Bovine Serum.
